Rotary Vestibular Testing System

Together with VNG/ENG, Rotary Vestibular Testing (RVT) completes the spectrum of tests for central and peripheral disorders of the vestibular system. Rotary testing is usually better tolerated than caloric testing and is easier to use with pediatric and geriatric populations. The GN Otometrics RVT system complements our full range of VNG/ENG equipment:

  •  All common rotational and pendular tests can be performed quickly and easily with our PDS-12 Rotary Reclining Chair.

HORTMANN PDS-12 Rotary Vestibular Test System

PDS-12

The PDS-12 is a comprehensive Rotary Vestibular Test System combining with the easy-to-use CNG Analyzer Software to deliver precise, computer-controlled rotational stimuli to the vestibular system.

Features

  • Caloric and positioning tests can also be performed with PDS-12
  • Constant speed programmable up to 250°/sec. (standard 90°/sec.)
  • Comfortable, adjustable chair can be tilted to 30° for caloric testing or reclined to the horizontal position
  • 24 low-noise slip rings permit the recording of ENG by means of electrodes and VNG using our video goggles
  • When used with our covered video goggles, no enclosure, electrodes or video camera are necessary
  • Can be combined with VNG Analyzer and ENG Analyzer

Advanced rotational testing

The PDS-12 with CNG Analyzer software is a complete system for performing passive (whole body) sinusoidal oscillations of the patient at various frequencies.

The major clinical advantage of computerized rotational testing is the ability to produce angular accelerations that can be precisely controlled and repeated. Multiple stimuli of varying intensities can be applied to the vestibular system within a relatively short time. These tests allow evaluation of the vestibulo-ocular reflex and the optokinetic neural pathways in a manner that is not duplicated by alternative procedures.

Rotary testing is usually better tolerated than caloric testing and is easier to use with pediatric and geriatric populations. It is useful in monitoring progression of disease, compensation over time and in validating bilateral weakness. Together with VNG/ENG, it completes the spectrum of tests for central and peripheral disorders of the vestibular system.

Tests include:

  • Rotational Intensity Damping Test
  • Visual vestibulo-ocular reflex tests
  • Cervical tests
  • Fixation tests
  • Pendular, dampened and undampened

Integration with other technologies

GN Otometrics’ PDS-12 can be combined with our VNG Analyzer and ENG Analyzer and share the same computer. Our Aquamatic and Airmatic caloric stimulators complete this full line of vestibular test equipment.
